Ethnic Morris Dancing

Something I just found on MDDL:

Dance books have a catagory for "Ethnic Dance - English". I've never heard anyone describe Morris Dancing as Ethnic before, but I suppose it is.

And it's also another excuse for a poll (yey, poll!)...

Poll #620324 Morris Dancing Ethnic

Is Morris Dancing Ethnic?

Technically. We don't normally think of it like that because it's not exotic to us, but yes.

It's mostly done in England, as far as I'm aware, and originated there. It's been done for several hundred years. Those are the only qualifications that any other "ethnic" thing or activity possesses in a non-English country. Highland dancing is certainly ethnic, for example, and it's not entirely dissimilar. So yes, Morris is ethnic.

Not if you're doing morris dancing - there's a specific provision that says it's not "regulated entertainment".

It doesn't specify whether it's "entertainment but unregulated" or "unentertaining therefore unregulated", though.
